An innovation of promoting Ecofish project of Yayasan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan / LEAD Indonesia was made in collaboration with Twilite YOUTH Orchestra (TYO). Eco Fish project supported by Darwin Initiative through LEAD International has been completed in 2008. The fishermen groups in Buleleng District, Bali, have been certified by Marine Aquarium Council (MAC), as the group members have shifted cyanide use to collect ornamental fish into environmentally safe standard. Through 3-year activities the Eco Fish project has certified more than 200 ornamental fish fishermen, developed 3 eco fish fishermen group, and 3 community council, with a local cooperative that received initial funds to assist the fishermen group. According to the survey conducted by Reef Check and MAC, the marine habitat in the project site shows recovery since the cyanide use decreased, as the biodiversity and the number of ornamental fish increased. Besides, the local fishermen found some species that have been disappearing for some years.
A standard orchestral repertoire was performed on August 17, 2009 at Bali Room, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta to support “eco fish” fishermen group to continue their environmentally fishing practices for sustainable future as well as to celebrate TYO’s 5th Anniversary and Indonesia’s Independence Day.
The Great Overtures of Mozart, Wagner, Brahms, Rossini and works by Vivaldi and Bruch as world’s greatest classical composers were brilliantly performed by very talented teenagers of Twilite YOUTH Orchestra. Acting as conductor was Eric Awuy – who has 30 years’ experience in conservatories and orchestras across Canada and other countries and is presently the Twilite Orchestra’s principal trumpeter. “Those are all well-known opera overtures. One way of describing an overture is that it is a preview of the main themes that will appear in the opera itself,” Eric said (Rafadi Hakim’s Young Passions Rise for great overtures, The Jakarta Post online at www.twiliteyouthorchestra.com). |
